Why should I make choices that Please the Lord?

Hello Readers & Followers,

I hope your week is going on well and I hope the weather is lovely where you are. It's raining here at the moment, I need to prepare a hot drink as soon as I finish typing this article.

Proverbs 14:12 (EXB version) says "Some people think they are doing right (There is a path that seems straight to a person), but in the end, it leads to death.

Let me share something with you. One of my friends recently informed me that, as she was waiting at a bus stop for a mode of public transport, the Holy Spirit asked her not to enter the first mode of public transport that arrived. The Holy Spirit asked her to wait for the next one.

Based on her understanding, she couldn't comprehend why she could not enter the public transport as she had been waiting for a while. Nevertheless, she heeded the instruction from the Holy Spirit and she waited for the next public transport. As the driver was driving to her destination, she noticed the transportation that she didn't enter had been involved in a gruesome accident, she couldn't believe it as if she had not heeded the warning from the Holy Spirit, she would have been part of the casualties.

Proverbs 3:5-7 (NIV version) says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil."

My friend made the choice to trust in the Lord to lead her. What if she didn't heed the instruction from the Holy Spirit, what would have happened to her?

When you choose to follow the directions from the Lord, you will be the one to reap the rewards. So, why not allow God to direct your choices?  There will be times that some choices would be right but God is saying, it isn't yet time for you to make that particular choice.

As parents when we wanted to decide on the choice of school for our daughter, we had the choice of faith and a non-faith school. As Christians, you'd automatically think that God would prefer our daughter to attend the faith-based school, right? In our case, it was different. God told us that our daughter will be attending a non-faith-based school. Most of the Christians that we know could not understand. However, we strongly believe in following the leading of God for our family. From our experience, God leads families differently as He has a purpose for each family.

Let me share something that happened to me prior to getting married. I was worshipping at a church but God said to me that He required my service at another church and if I chose not to listen to His instruction, my service will not be acceptable to Him. Thank God for the courage to leave and thanks to my husband (fiancĂ© at the time) that supported me.

As children of God, we always need God's guidance to make the right choices as we are limited in our understanding and also, we can't see the future. It is only God who sees all things and He knows the end from the beginning.  God is the master planner of our lives. Why not trust in Him to direct your steps?

Do you know the story in the Book of Numbers 16:28-33, when Kora, Dathan and Abiram decided to oppose Moses, the Bible recorded that they died with all their family members. The wrong choices that Kora, Dathan and Abiram made affected their family members. How sad!

We also have the story of Lot in the Book of Genesis 13-14, when Lot chose the fertile land that was near Sodom but he didn't realise that the army would invade the city he was living close to. Lot and his children were captured during the time of war. Thank God for his uncle (Abraham) for rescuing him and his children. I actually taught on this at our online global Bible Study, click here to watch it.

From the above teaching, I hope you have gained one or two things about the importance of making choices that please the Lord.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, please, guide me in all my choices and help me to always listen to You, in Jesus' name.

You can pray the same prayer for those connected to you.

I love hearing from you in the comment section. Please take a minute to say ‘hello’ by leaving a comment.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Yours in Christ,
