Christ Has Set You Free From Sin

Hello Readers & Followers,

I am continuing the series titled "Our identity in Christ." If you missed last week's topic (Proverbs 31 Believers | Your Royalty In Christ), please click this link to catch up. Today's topic is about how Christ has set us free from sin.

Freedom is to be released from all forms of limitation. A great analogy is that of a prisoner. While they are in the prison, they are restricted on what they can do, what they can eat, who they talk to, etc. Once they are set free, they are released from all those restrictions; they can do whatever they choose to, they can eat whatever they want. There is no more restriction on what they can do. Every human being that is born into this world was born into the prison of sin until God sent Jesus into the world to pay the price for our freedom.

Jesus Christ came into this world to show us the Way to the Father. He lived a blameless and sinless life, as a perfect example of how we should live. He delivered us from the penalty of sin when He died on the cross of Calvary. This ensures that sin does not have dominion over us as Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1).

John 8:32 says "So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Halleluyah! We are free in Christ. Praise be to God!  This means we are no longer under the bondage of sin as Christ rules over us. Galatians 2:20 (GW version) says "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live I live by believing in God’s Son, who loved me and took the punishment for my sins."

Do you know that Christ does not want us to misuse this freedom that we have in Him? The Word of God says in 1 Peter 2:16 that you should live as free people but there is a caveat to this freedom, you are not to do evil or engage in the things that God won't be pleased with (Paraphrased).

  1. Yes, with freedom comes responsibility. It grieves me when people say they are Christians and don’t act like it. You have to wonder if God really penetrated their heart. Real faith is rooted in a relationship with Jesus.

    1. You are right,JP. That is the reason I wrote the post to remind Christians of our responsibilities.
