ML: Tell us a little bit about yourself

BM: My name is Oluwabusola Majekodunmi, however, I am known as Busola for short. Biologically, I am the last born from a family of 4, I have two elder brothers. I am a love child of a love God, passionate about young people and education, a graduate of Economics but currently an entrepreneur and I also run an education social enterprise called Steer to Greatness.

ML: When did you become a Christian, a born again Christian?

BM: My christian journey I would say started when I was in my mother's womb 😊, I was born into a Christian family, so going to church, praying, reading the Bible was part of my childhood. However, when I started seeking to know God for myself and understand Christianity myself was in 2003. Prior to this time, I had lost my mother at age 7 and became a withdrawn and shy child, then one blessed Sunday (unfortunately, I can't remember the exact date), I heard a defining message about God as our Father and I gave my life to Christ that day. However, I won't say I completely understood that decision, because I remember it took about 4 years for me to stop going forward for an altar call after a "touching sermon". One day when I was 17, I had my own personal God encounter and started understanding what Christianity truly meant.

ML: How has the journey been?

BM: The journey has been beautiful, nevertheless, I have had a few times when I strayed, became distracted, but it's been beautiful because God always calls my name and through His Spirit helps me examine myself when I am not in His will. This past 14 years, I have seen God at work that I have come to know and trust in Jesus for myself not because I was born into a family of believers. I have encountered the Holy of Holies that there is no other place I want to be.

ML: What has Christianity taught you?

BM: Christianity has taught me a lot of things, I would try to be brief.

• It has taught me that JESUS is the only way to be saved. It is by putting complete trust in the finished work of Christ that we are saved.
• It has taught me that LOVE is all we truly need in this world. The God kind of love, the 1 Corinthians 13 love and that God works this love in us.
• I have learnt that Christianity is God reaching out to man, it is not a religion, it is about relationship, God is my Father, I am adopted through the completed work of Christ on Calvary and His Spirit is living in me as a seal for my salvation, helping me on this journey to eternity.
• I am created in Christ Jesus unto good works, so I do good not to be saved because Christ has already done that when I believed in Him, it is my new nature to be like Christ, to show forth heaven on earth (everywhere Christ went He did good)
• I have learnt that eternal life is not just what I expect to have in heaven when I die or when the trumpet sounds, it is the life I now live while on earth here, the Zoe, God-kind of life, so what can't affect Jesus can't and should not affect me. Eternal life is knowing God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.

ML: Is this a journey that you want to continue in or stop?

BM: Stop ke? No Oo! It  is a journey/relationship I want to continue. I am in love with Jesus, He is in love with me. It continues for all eternity. Christianity is enjoying the love of God, who wants to stop being in love?  My daily prayer is to see Him clearly, love Him dearly and follow Him nearly

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not or to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

BM: My advice is that you would open your heart/mind to receive the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus. It's not a call to escape condemnation only, it's a call to know the love of God that is simply indescribable. It's a call to live a purpose driven life. It's a call to enter into a glorious destiny. If you are struggling with your relationship with God, my word to you is this - Tell God as it is. Don't be afraid to approach the throne of grace just as you are and receive mercy and grace (divine empowerment) that you need to enjoy your walk with God. Jesus lives daily to make intercession for you, He is the great high priest who understands what you are going through and wants to help you, that's why you have the Holy Spirit.

Interview | Lively Stones Founder, Yemisi Ajeojo Shares Her Journey Into Christianity

Welcome to another Christianity Explored Interview. Our guest today is the founder of Lively Stones, Yemisi Ajeojo.

I met Yemisi about two years ago (2015). She volunteered to usher for a Christian music concert where I was honoured to coordinate the ushers. 

Among the volunteers, Yemisi was one of the people that stood out for me. Her love for God was noticeable in her discussions and she couldn't wait to tell me about the Christian ministry that the Lord has given her. When I found out the year she was at the University as well as her age, I was elated and extremely proud of her. I am an advocate of Ecclesiastes 12:1 which says Remember your Creator in the days of your youth as there won't be another day like the days of your youth (paraphrased). It pleases me when young people serve God and go above and beyond to do things for God.

ML:Tell us a little bit about yourself

YA: Hi, I am Yemisi Ajeojo, I am 20, don't tell anyone I told you... LOL. I am a student at Aston University and also the founder of  Lively Stones UK. I am so easily touched by issues relating to young people and that's what inspired Lively Stones. Lively stones is my little effort at providing a compass for the development of Christian youth on campus.

ML: How and When did you become a Christian, born again Christian?

YA: I grew up in a Christian home, so the question of when I became a christian is like one of those questions you look up and bite your nails over. Right from before I could speak, I was already marking attendance in church. 

Nonetheless, as I grew older and could sift chaff from actual food, I found out that I enjoyed serving in church. So from as young as I can possibly remember, I was either teaching in church, singing in the choir, or in every capacity I could muster, serving in multiple leadership positions.

As with every youth with a tonne of energy to dispense, I realised that I functioned in these capacities because it came naturally to me not necessarily because I knew God or had a relationship with him and this point in itself was where I hit a huge paradigm shift.

You see, as I love to say it, a race in the right direction is the only race awarded a medal. So it is very easy to get very busy and be like a child on a rocking chair... many swings on the same spot. I grew up in a very religious environment, so it was very easy to swing as everyone did, be engulfed in religious activities because everyone did and everyone expected you to... all activities, no real results.

I am most appreciative of the fact that reality hit me a lot sooner and I started thinking "this can't be all God had in store for me." Occasionally, I heard people talk about God so intimately and I knew that I wanted that too not for the 'Me too' experience. I just needed to know God for myself, you know, have a friend that owned the world... I've always liked to live larger than life itself. 

I became hungrier for a relationship with God and to really know him at the age of 15 when I moved to the UK to study. Coming here, presented me with so much freedom and independence that I had never had before. For the first time, I was presented a choice and quite frankly, it was easy for me to put a stop to all the things that God represented but here I was making a conscious choice to follow Christ.

So, I knew that if I wanted to continue in the faith, it had to be a decision that I fully understood and wanted to make for myself. I needed to grow beyond activity, mere talk and trying to intentionally sound Christian as is the cliche. I needed to consciously love Christ for me, not for what I could give but for the immense love he offered on the cross. 

It was this hunger and a lot of other personal encounters that brought me to a place of having a relationship with God, a better understanding of what his love really is.

So, forgive me if I overshot this, but if I had to place a date to it, I will say I became a born again Christian in 2012.

ML: How has the journey been?

YA: You remember I talked about getting involved in activities that led nowhere? The real love of the father has liberated me from all guilt and all of the activities I would normally do to make myself earn the love of the father. The journey has thus far taught me that there is nothing I can to earn his love, He loves enough for two and that his perfect love knows no fear.

In becoming a Christian and having a relationship with God, I had to unlearn and relearn a lot of things about faith and about God. In knowing God, I have found myself and found freedom from a lot of things. I have also found peace even in the most difficult circumstance. It has been a journey of constant learning and growing, there is always something new to learn. The father is constantly unveiling different sides of himself the more fellowship I have with him.

ML: What has Christianity taught you?

YA: Having a relationship with the God who owns all of life and is still so mindful of me is the most empowering and awesome feeling ever. 

Christianity has also taught me to live like an ambassador and to realise that all of life's imperfections is only a shadow of the perfection that is God's kingdom. 

Christianity has taught me that Jesus is the peace in my storms, my water walker, my heavy burden sharer, my way maker. Christ has taught me to call things that be not as though they were, put flesh and all of the world's offerings under the subjection of the word among others that would be too much to mention.

I have learnt that as a Christian, you can’t grow without a community - the body of Christ. 

Also, it is important to have a personal encounter and revelation if one is to truly grow and not be moved by just any wind of doctrine.

I am very thankful to everyone who has been influential in my Christian walk, but I am even more thankful that God chased after me all my life and that he didn't leave me despite my imperfections. So, with the desire he has placed in me, I constantly seek truth and unveil new layers of his abounding love for me. With this seeking comes deeper revelations which has kept me here.

ML: Is this a journey that you want to continue in or stop?

YA: My answer is simply... have you seen those kids that love candy and chocolate bars so much? That is a crude description of the  utmost satisfaction I have found from knowing Jesus. His love is so breathtaking.

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not or to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

YA: I wouldn't term it tips, I would say practical steps because in essence, Christianity is moving your feet rather than been static. 

First, I've found that it's easier to win at life when you are teamed up with the one who created all of life... kinda what the stockbrokers would call insider trading. Imagine you could live life knowing you would win at every twist and turn? That's how life as a Christian is... there is this immense advantage and head-start you get at life, it doesn't sound fair, but life isn't after all. I am not saying that things will always be easy and rosy, but you will experience peace that passes all human understanding no matter your circumstance. It is beyond what words can do justice to.

Feeling discouraged about your relationship with God? then you are definitely doing it wrong. I will try in my best way possible to help. 

First, you need to cut off from legalities, by that I mean don't get caught up in activities, stop trying to please God by yourself and let him love himself through you... remember scriptures says you are a vessel and we are his workmanship created unto every good work. We start struggling in our relationship with God when we try to do it with our efforts. Remember the parable of the lost coin? have you asked yourself what the coin did to be found? Nothing! The woman went in search of the Coin. Believers, the love of God for you is unconditional, you can't deserve it by your actions. Love God because he loves you first not because of the endless battle to earn the righteousness you already have by the gift of the cross. Righteousness is a gift, so stop trying to pay for his love and acceptance with your actions, let your love for him be an effect of the love you have received and you will find that your relationship with him will flourish in ways that you never imagined.

Also, being in the right community is very important as a Christian. So, having people around you who have a passion for God, you can be honest and vulnerable with as well as people that can lovingly correct and help you grow is very essential to your Christian walk. 

If you are holding back from a relationship with God because you have difficult questions that no one has been able to answer, I want you to know that God is not intimidated by your difficult questions, and he wants to give you the life that only he can. If you are wondering whether you should give your life to God or not, Jesus is the way the truth and life, and a relationship with God through Jesus is the best decision you can ever make.

ML: Tell us a little bit about yourself

AB: My name is Abraham King, I love God, my wife Rachel and people. 

ML: When did you become a Christian, a born again Christian?

AB: I became a Christian by personal conviction. My parents are priests but I never saw the need to be a Christian. In fact, I did not go to church with them. I lived by a moral compass but just before I got admission into the university, I had an encounter which changed the course of my life. I am happy I know Christ and privileged to share the compassion of Christ with others.

ML: How has the journey been?

AB: It’s been a discovery and adventure. When I met Christ, I thought the journey of faith was simple and my new identity gave me an easy pass in any endeavour. But no, I had to work out my salvation and start the process of sanctification. My lifestyle changed – dressing, outings, friends, communication, habits and entertainment picks.

ML: What has Christianity taught you?

AB: Christianity has taught me that it is through Jesus that we have redemption of sins and have access to the Kingdom of God. One thing about Christianity is that, with God on your side, you are always a winner and can always bounce back from any set back.

ML: Is this a journey that you want to continue in or stop?

AB: I have chosen this journey or rather this journey has chosen me. In fact, if after our time on earth and I am told that it was a hoax, I will still be fulfilled knowing fully well I already experienced heaven on earth.

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not or to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

AB: I post daily inspirational messages on Instagram @able360, one of my posts says, "cancer is real, poverty is real, pain is real, debt is real, evil is real but Jesus is the real deal". Our journey in life is filled with bumps and bricks, the best person to help us navigate the troubled waters is Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life.

See Into the World of Sam: A Journey Into Knowing God

We continue with our series on “Christianity Explored.” Last week, Omoby was interviewed (Click Here for her interview) and we were reminded that we must not lose sight of our eternal goals. She reminded us that this life is transient; therefore, we must not be carried away about things on earth. This week, we are finding out Sam’s journey into Christianity. Follow me as I explore more about Sam.

Myss Lafunky (ML) welcomes Sam

ML: Tell us a little bit about yourself

Sam: My name is Sam. I enjoy going to the gym 4-5 days a week, because health is wealth.

ML: When did you become a Christian, a born again Christian?

Sam: The first time I became a born again Christian was in 2011 at the age of 17 while I was in College, which lasted for two weeks and the reason for that was; I wasn’t ready to live the life God wanted for me. I still wanted to live in the world that I knew and saw; I wanted to live like my peers, I wanted God to be on my side whilst serving other masters (the other world). I chose to become a born again Christian at a Christian programme with the presence of my family and it just felt like it was the right thing to do, but I wasn’t ready. 

Fast forward to four years later, I became born again once more and this time I told myself that I needed to change my ways, but once again, it failed and I just carried on living in the other world. I knew God and I could see what He was doing in my life but it was just hard for me to let go of the world and live the way God wanted me to live. 

Two years down the line at our church's youth retreat I decided that it was the right time, I let go of everything and gave God all of me but to do that I needed to be baptised. I became baptised, the old me died and the new me, the life that was right in God’s eyes was created and since February, just under three weeks I can say that I am a born again Christian.

ML: How has the journey been?

Sam: As I’ve mentioned, the journey hasn’t been the easiest, but the important thing that I have learnt is never to give up. Also, we may be born again and we may sometimes fall into the trap of temptation and of the world, but we can ask God for forgiveness and continue to live the righteous path. Since I have been born again for the past three weeks, it has been hard but I know with God all things are possible.

ML: May the Lord help you to overcome every challenge that may come your way and everything that you are finding difficult in Jesus' name. May you never look back and go back to the old ways in Jesus' name.

Sam: Amen

ML:  What has Christianity taught you?

Sam: That it is not a religion but a way of life. We shouldn’t aspire to be like our Pastors, Sunday school teachers or anyone in the church. Our aspiration should be what God wants for us and not what anybody else wants. Christianity has also taught me to live by the Spirit and not by the world.

ML: Is this a journey that you want to continue in or stop?

Sam: It is a journey that I will continue on for the rest of my life. Without God, I wouldn’t be here right now. Even when I didn’t deserve the blessings, He showered me with them. He will forever be my God.

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not or to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

Sam:  Matthew 6:33 says “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” No matter what you have on this earth, if you do not seek God first and live by His words, then you will not enter into His Kingdom. You simply cannot serve two masters and trying to please both will destroy you. I hope you make the right decision.

Also, being a born again Christian is not just about following God’s orders, it’s about you letting God into your life and allow Him change it for the better. Just remember that with God all things are possible.

If you feel discouraged that your relationship with God isn’t where it should be, read the bible, download the bible app and find a plan that can help you build that relationship and most importantly pray.

Lastly, whenever you pray and think God is not there, remember; God may not be there when you call, but He’s always on time.

Omobolanle Adeyemo, popular known as Omoby, has a passion for counselling, coaching and teaching singles in areas of relationship, career and purpose. Her message boils down on teaching Youths to maximise their single life while waiting. 

Omoby is a professional Quantity Surveyor who holds two degrees in the same field. She’s a member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and an Incorporate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). ML: Tell us a little bit about yourself apart from what has been said already.

Omoby:  My name is Omoby. I love travelling, reading and writing. 

ML: When did you become a Christian, a born again Christian?

Omoby: I grew up in a traditional Christian home. My parents were good Christians and went to church regularly which I enjoyed. However, I knew that there was something else missing. Having Jesus as a personal saviour did not come until 24th December, 2005. It was after this time I started reading the Bible and consciously following all the tenets of the Bible.

ML: Any special moments?

Omoby: There were no special moments. I just felt that the time was right and I needed to consciously and deliberately invite Jesus into my heart.

ML: How has the journey been?

Omoby: The journey has not been all rosy. I have faced pain and cried my eyes out but my solace is always that I have a God through Jesus Christ who understands everything that I am going through.

I have faced and been tormented with failures, my inadequacies and my defeats, but in all of this, God has been faithful.

ML: What has Christianity taught you?

Omoby:  First of all, Christianity has helped me understand “life” better. Somehow, with God, I came to realise that life is a transient: extremely brief and a temporary residence. I have learnt to make the best use of every minute I get and impact lives in any way I can. I try not to waste my time on frivolities or stuffs that has no eternal value.

I have come to know that there’s far more life than here and now. Thus, I have stopped worrying about “having it all” or earthly crowns. The goal and purpose of God for my life which I have come to learn through my work with God is beyond material abundance and a good career or marital success.  Don’t get me wrong, all these are good while living on earth, but I should not lose sight of eternal goals as well.

Two, Christianity has helped me to develop my relationship with God. It is in this journey I came to understand how I could become best friends with God and sustain my relationship. Before being born again, it used to look weird to me when people spoke of their relationship with God and how they maintain friends with Him. But I have come to understand that I can, through constant communication with Him in my everyday activity and through continual meditation I can actually be close to God. In a similar vein, it gives me so much pleasure that God desires friendship with me more than anything else.

Three, Christianity has taught me that God is always willing to help us defeat temptations. Psalm 50 vs 15 talks about the privilege we have to call upon God as many times as possible whenever we are faced with any situation greater than us even if it means defeating a particular temptation hundred times a day, His patience never wears out.

Christianity taught me how to be kind and good to everyone, i.e., have a heart of compassion for those less privileged than me and loving them with the love of Christ. This means that I shouldn’t do anything that would hurt a fellow brother or sister and to treat them as Jesus would.

ML: Christianity has indeed taught you a lot of things. Would you want to continue the Christian journey or stop?

Omoby: Definitely! The Christian journey is a walk of faith. Christianity is a journey I would want to continue. I don’t know any other way that gives me so much peace and love as this. 

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not and also to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

Omoby: To new converts, please relax, you’ll not understand everything that’s in here. But remember that even when you’re faced with pain, God always has a purpose (2 Corinthians 4 vs 17).

Secondly, the Christian walk is a continuous walk into perfection. You’ll not get to be all perfect or good or kind or nice or lovely overnight. But, refuse to give up. Rejoice and give thanks even when things are not going as planned. Remember Romans 8 vs 28-29, God’s plan is always good. 

Finally, remember that it takes time to grow. Thus, your Christian growth is gradual and not overnight. Don’t stay discouraged, be patient with God and yourself, don’t get discouraged and believe that God is working everything out in your life even when you don’t feel it.

Ope’s Journey into Christianity and What Christianity Has Taught Him

I am so in love with this new series. I can’t wait for the readers, followers and the team to learn about other people’s journey into Christianity, how the journey is going, what they are learning and whether they will continue on the journey among other things. Also, I believe it's an opportunity for the people that we are interviewing to reflect on their christian faith.

Follow Myss Lafunky (ML) as she finds out more about Ope’s Journey

ML: Tell us a little bit about yourself

Ope: My name is Opeyemi Akinola; 5th of 5 children; Lecturer and practising Civil Engineer based in Nigeria. I am married to one wife.

ML: When did you become a Christian/born again Christian?
Ope: My parents got married as Muslims. I was born the year after my mum became a Christian. Dad became a Christian 12 years after I was born. I dedicated my life to Christ in Secondary School in 1998.

ML: How has the journey been?
Ope: It has been interesting; though not easy but every experience has been well worth it.

ML: What has Christianity taught you?

Ope: It has taught me so many things and helped me become the man I am today. I have found hope and joy in situations where many have been heartbroken. It helps me to learn to live and love better on a daily basis.

ML: Is this a journey that you want to continue in or stop?
Ope: Certainly, it’s a journey I look forward to continuing. I learn a lot on a daily basis and my steps are ordered. It feels great to have a father I can always look up to and trust that my all would be alright.

ML: Any tips for our readers who are contemplating whether they should be a born again Christian or not, or to anyone feeling discouraged about their relationship with God?

Ope: In Jesus Christ you will feel a peace that passes all understanding – human and otherwise. All your fears would be allayed once you learn to trust in Him fully. He is faithful and never fails. He loves better than any earthly father can.

Christianity Explored | New Series Starting Next Week Monday

For the next few weeks, Myss Lafunky and her team will be sharing different accounts of what Christianity has taught various Christians; interviews will be conducted and their responses will be shared on the blog. To kick start the series, I'd like to explore who a Christian is and what Christianity is all about: 

A Christian is a person who has encountered the love of God as a direct result of putting their faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross on their behalf. Such an experience brings the person into a relationship of loving obedience.

"A Christian, according to Rowan Williams, is someone whose life is lived in relationship with God through Jesus Christ and, in common with other Christians, is seeking to deepen that relationship and to follow the way that Jesus taught."

To develop their relationship with Jesus Christ, Christians pray, read and reflect on the Bible, worship, meet with other Christians, and then seek to live their lives in the light of the Bible. 

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God and in order to have a relationship with God, you have to go through Jesus Christ. Jesus says, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30); “If you knew me, you would know the Father also” (John 8:19); “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:8); and “I am in the Father and the Father is in me” (John 14:10). 



Who then is Jesus Christ?

The Bible teaches that all things on earth were created through Jesus Christ and He has been there
from the beginning (John 1-1:3). He is God.

On earth there was a need that could only be accomplished by God Himself. Man was separated from God because of sin. (Sin is when people do bad things; like kill, steal, cheat, lie, and hate; etc).

So God became flesh and came down to earth as Jesus Christ (John 1:14).

This is very mysterious for the human minds to comprehend. So Jesus Christ willingly left the beauty and joy of  heaven to be born and in time died on the cross so mankind (every man, woman, boy and girl) could be forgiven from sin.

Jesus Christ died one of the most cruel and horrible deaths ever imagined as He shed His blood
on the cross. This was the only way mankind could be forgiven and brought back into a relationship with a holy God.

Jesus Christ is the only God that is not dead, He is alive in heaven and through His Holy Spirit, He lives insides and guides everyone that believes in Him and has chosen to follow His teachings.

I can't wait to find out what Christianity has taught those that follow the Christian faith. Watch out for the series as we kick off from next week Monday.
